Many of us struggle with weight loss despite all our hard work. Fortunately, the FDA has approved semaglutide, a prescription medication for weight loss. Semaglutide works by suppressing your appetite, so you eat less without feeling hungry or unsatisfied. Research has demonstrated that this treatment works to help people lose significant amounts of weight. Unlike some former weight loss medications, semaglutide works safely to achieve weight loss with fewer side effects.

How does Semaglutide work?

Semaglutide works by mimicking a hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) that targets areas of the brain that regulate appetite and food intake; it is a powerful appetite suppressant. It also works by increasing the production of insulin and appears to enhance growth of β cells in the pancreas, which are the sites of insulin production. Additionally, it inhibits glucagon, which is a hormone that increases blood sugar. It has been known to aid not only in weight loss, but helps to lower glucose levels in those who are pre-diabetic or who have type 2 diabetes.

  • Delays stomach emptying, leading to a feeling of fullness and smaller meal size

  • Slows intestinal motility

  • Lowers blood sugars, in part by reducing the production of sugar in the liver

  • Stimulates insulin secretion by the pancreas

At CRAVE Medical Spa & Wellness Center, we start a low dose which can be increased gradually over 16 to 20 weeks to a max of 2.4 mg weekly. Not all patients will need the max of 2.4 mg weekly though; it is common for patients to have great success with minimal side effects around 0.25 - 1 mg weekly.

How to get started on your WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY:

Step 1:  Call or book online to schedule your preliminary appointment. A $200 lab fee/deposit is required to hold your spot.  This amount is non-refundable but will be applied to your Weight Loss Plan if you are approved by the doctor.

  • Book and pay deposit

  • Watch for your paperwork to appear in your email. Fill out as quickly as you can.

Step 2:  Once your appointment is on the books our staff will give you a quick call to set up your labs.

Step 3:  Initial appointment with Dr. Sharratt. At this appointment you will have a couple of steps to qualify for Semiglutide Weight Loss Plan (Plan to spend 45 minutes with us at this appointment).

  • You will meet with Dr. Sharratt will carefully screen you by evaluating your past medical history, labs, any current medications you take, your vital signs, and your body mass index (BMI). Dr. Sharratt will determine if Semaglutide is a safe and good option for you (based on the FDA recommendations for treating obesity).

  • Meet with the patient coordinator to receive instructions on the Weight Loss Plan.

Since the Semaglutide injection does not help increase energy or boost metabolism, we recommend pairing it with either a vitamin B12 injection or one of our lipotropic injections.

You are NOT a good candidate for semaglutide if you have any of the following: diabetic retinopathy, low blood sugar, decreased kidney function, pancreatitis, medullary thyroid cancer (or a family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma), or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2.
